Recent stay at Hotel Andra

Seattle has a number of wonderful boutique hotels to choose from. Last week I stayed at one of my favorites, Hotel Andra.
Hotel Andra is one of my preferred hotels in Seattle and has been a client favorite since it underwent its transformation from the old Claremont Hotel a few years ago. It's got a clean, cool, modern Scandanavian vibe but without the "hipper than thou" attitude that characterizes some other hip hotels. I had of course visited the hotel and seen the rooms several times but I'd never had a chance to stay there so I rectified that last week. A new high rise is being constructed next door so I wanted to see for myself how disruptive that would be. I was very pleased to find that noise from the construction site really wasn't an issue, so I can continue to recommend the hotel with confidence. Just be sure to ask for a room away from the Virginia Street side (which of course is a request that I make for my clients staying there). The rooms are stylish and the beds are really comfortable! I especially love the European-style duvet they use and the nice, soft sheets. And lots of fluffy down pillows (although I'm sure they can provide other types of pillows if you're allergic). The bathrooms are a little small since it's an older hotel but there's a decent amount of counter space, and most rooms have a vanity counter and mirror in the entry way that provide extra space to put things. I had dinner at Lola, the Tom Douglas restaurant at the hotel and that was wonderful as always (I really like their salmon kebabs, and the greek donut thingies they have for dessert are worth saving room for). The next morning, I was happy to use my stay there as an excuse to go across the street and pick up pastries at the Dahlia Bakery--one of my favorite places but I don't get there often enough. I really like the fact that the hotel is right smack in the middle of "Tom Douglas Land" (as my contact at the hotel calls it), given that his restaurants are high on my list of favorites. I think that the hotel's location, on the cusp between downtown and Belltown, is one of its best features--well, that and the great beds!
