Went to hear Stanley Clarke perform at Jazz Alley last night...what a great show!
I had the pleasure of seeing Stanley Clarke last year when he was touring with the Return to Forever reunion, and it was a great show but it was at the Paramount Theater and I was sitting in the balcony. It's an entirely different experience when you're sitting up next to the stage at a small venue like Jazz Alley. Being able to watch his fingering upclose was just mesmerizing. If you live here or you're in town this weekend, and you're a jazz fan, go and see him--he's at Jazz Alley through Sunday April 5. I liked the show so much I"m going back again on Sunday night.
If you do go, I always make reservations for dinner at least an hour before show time, as you get a better table if you have dinner and if you get there early. The food at Jazz Alley tends to err on the side of good not great, but their steaks and salmon are reliable. I tried the lamb curry last night and was favorably impressed.
